The best of the best comes from this amazing gathering of hot rods

For 35 years, and counting, the Shades of the Past car club has hosted the Hot Rod Roundup the weekend after Labor Day and every year rodders from all over the southeast come to see the best hot rods around. Adding to this are cars and trucks that come from all over the country. You will see major award winners from many different shows competing for Top 25 honors and the ultimate to be selected as one of the three that make up the Street Rodder Triple Crown of Rodding presented by Painless Performance.

This year the judging area was filled with nearly 200 hot rod cars and trucks…want to see them all take a look at the accompanying photo gallery. From this judging area will be all of the award winners of which there are many but the cream of the crop will make up the Top 25, the Magnificent 7, Detroit Speed Modern Muscle Award, Best Ford in a Ford by Ford Performance, and the Best Street Rod, Best Street Machine and Best Street Cruiser that make up the Triple Crown of Rodding. (To these three lucky owners and amazing hot rods they will be gathered up at the end of today and taken over to the Dollywood Dream Resort and photographed out front for an upcoming cover of Street Rodder.) And who can forget the 50/50 cash drawing that is already over $40,000 and climbing…the $10,000 cash award drawn from one of the early entrants for 2018, and, of course, the 1932 Ford highboy roadster built at Alloway’s Hot Rod Shop that is this year’s giveaway car…how’s that for a winnable prize for one of this year’s entrants!

The Top 25 are selected by the show judges but the Magnificent 7 are then chosen by the builders/owners of the Top 25. The Triple Crown of Rodding winners are selected from the Top 25 by the show judges. Aside from appearing on the cover of Street Rodder they will also be invited to be part of the Street Rodder booth at the 2018 Detroit Autorama. They will also receive a $5,000 check from Street Rodder as well as a $1,000 gift certificate from each of the participating sponsors. These sponsors are: Painless Performance, Advanced Plating, ARP, Classic Instruments, Art Morrison Enterprises, Powermaster Performance, PPG, Wilwood Brakes, and Vintage Air.

Sit back and thumb through the accompanying photo gallery and see if you can spot those that will go home with the “gold”.
