The 2nd Annual Street Rodder Triple Crown of Rodding presented by Painless Performance Products has found a home at the Hot Rod Roundup, this year the 35th annual, sponsored by the Shades of the Past car club and hosted at Dollywood’s Splash Country in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The TCR is designed to give recognition to outstanding efforts in creativity and workmanship in three categories: Best Street Rod, Best Street Machine, and Best Street Cruiser.

The founding companies behind the award, and the ones responsible for building the one of a kind Tom Gale designed awards are, Classic Instruments, Vintage Air, and Advanced Plating. The Shades of the Past car club along with member Bobby Alloway, of Alloway’s Hot Rod Shop, run the event and handle all of the daily chores to pull the event and the award presentation off.

From here the likes of PPG, ARP, Art Morrison Enterprises, Powermaster, and Wilwood support each of the winners, along with Classic Instruments, Vintage Air, and Advanced Plating, with a $1,000 gift certificate for product allowing the car owner to begin a new project or possibly update one already in the mix. The owners also receive a $5,000 check directly of Street Rodder magazine that can also be applied to present or future projects. There’s also another bonus: Each of the car owners are invited to bring their winning cars to the upcoming Detroit Autorama and be displayed in the Street Rodder 20×60 booth located on the front row of the main hall…a great spot for these cars to be viewed by the tens of thousands of hot rod fans who attend the event.

To be in the running for the award you must first pass through the gauntlet that is the Top 25 grouping form the Hot Rod Roundup judging area…of which there were nearly 200 cars in competition. All judging is handled by members from the Shades of the Past car club…no outside help. As an aside, if you were a Painless Performance Top 100 recipient during one of the 10 events held during the year you receive a complementary entry to the Shades event giving you an opportunity to compete.

Taking home honors this year were George Poteet with his Alan Johnson of Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop built 1932 Ford highboy sedan (also a Great 8 winner and finalist for the Ridler award at this year’s Detroit Autorama.) in the Best Street Rod category. Next up was the 1969 Camaro built by the Roadster Shop for John Wilkus and the rounding out the Big Three was the 1955 Chrysler convertible built by Mike Rutter of Rutterz Hot Rodz for Wayne Davis.

Be sure to stay tuned to Street Rodder (and it’s website) as complete features are coming on all three of these cars.
